Hi all just wondering if anyone is looking for a bit of work,

I have a Ford Focus 2005 and the engine management light is on

The car drives fine but there is a shutter while the car is idling, I've changed the plugs, leads, and Coil still no joy I'm unsure what the problem is, the car was not driven for a while and I'm unsure what the problem is, if anyone has a diagnostic tool for ford and knows the codes I'd pay to know whats wrong, and I'd pay again to get it fixed depending on price, I'm based in in Greystones so message me

Cant offer help but can offer past experiences. It may well be drawing air. Stick an ear near the, inlet manifold and listen for a hissing sound. If there is one stick a finger on the flexible rubber piping under the inlet manifold pipes the rubber pipe in question will be the, width of a finger) and move it around a bit. If the sound or even just the idle speed changes, thats almost definitely your problem, they are notorious for it.

Thanks for your advice I drove it today and noticed when I opened the window the exhaust is rattling, as the car hadn't been drove in a while could the fuel system be all messed up and this caused the engine light ? And the shutter as not enough fuel is getting to its location

Check for a broken wire at the plug going onto the coil pack and also pull out the plug leads make sure there is no water in around the plugs.

If you have no joy there pull out the plugs and make sure the porcelin part is not cracked ive seen that a bit lately where plugs have been overtightened.

The exhaust is rattling, maybe it's the cat converter? Although the heat shields are known to rattle once the bolts have corroded off.

You could be right about converter maybe that's why it's not running right as I said it hasn't been driven for a while it could be clogged up; any ideas of cost and labour of getting a new one

A new one would cost a pretty penny. I would get onto the local independent garage first. Ask a local taxi man for a recommendation.

A disintegrating cat would make the car not only lose power while driving but stall completely when it lodges in the exhaust pipe and the dust builds up. To be safe, Id stick with the original plan of a diagnosis and mabye an emissions test aswell.
