jobbridge internship

    Hi all,

just a quick question. I'm currently doing a jobbridge internship which was advertised for 6 months. The six months is almost finished and I had a meeting with my employers to go through my contract as they want to keep me on. They wanted to apply for jobsplus but unfortunately i'm not eligible as i was only on job seekers for exactly 3 months before I started the internship (so nine months in total). For them to avail of the jobsplus incentive, I have to have been on for 12 months or more. They now want to extend my internship to nine months so that by the time I'm finished I will have clocked up the 12 months and they will be eligible for jobsplus. My question is - will this in any way affect my claim? Will i have to go into social welfare about it? The less I have to do with them the better as I have not had a very pleasant experience with them for the three months prior to starting my internship. Or is it just a case of my employer extending it on the jobbridge website and the internship continues as normal? Any advice is much appreciated.

Can I extend my current internship from 6 months to 9 months?
Yes, Host Organisations may apply to extend their current internship from 6 months to 9 months. Host Organisations must apply to jobbridge@welfare.ie providing the appropriate details and confirming that both parties agree to this extension.

The period of time on Jobbridge does not count towards the 12 month requirement for Jobplus. When you go on Jobbridge the claim days are stopped so you will go back to the 3 month timeframe at the end of Jobbridge and therefore not have the relevant claim days for Jobplus.
Please check this with your local office.

Is this written down anywhere on Dep of Social Protection or Citizens Information sites?

It's not. I have researched it. All criteria states 312days/12 months on claim. Periods on Jobbridge stop the claim days and you are not considered to be on the live register. The only way of proving the term for Jobplus is based on claim days and Jobbridge claim days aren't added. Usually there would be a statement that periods on Jobbridge count but there is not, other schemes are mentioned CE, BTEA etc but not Jobbridge. So in this case after Jobbridge claims revert to the previous number of days which in this case I am reading as 78 days (min required). Therefore not qualifying for Jobplus.

Jobbridge does count towards jobsplus - i know several people that were accepted onto jobsplus from doing a jobbridge internship and the company that I work with were advised by someone in the jobbridge department to consider jobsplus.

I have just spoken to Jobsplus and they confirmed Jobbridge periods count. I have asked them to clarify this in their information as it is not specified and to add Jobbridge as one of the schemes that is used as a qualifying period and they have agreed to do this.
