    Hi

    Am looking for 4 new tyres for a 2011 Mazda 6. 225/45/18
Not too cheap as its the family car and hopefully not too expensive.

    Any recommendations?

Have been quoted €120 a corner for federal but the reviews don't seem great for those.

    Galway area

    thanks

    I have 4 falken's on my car, fk453 I think, I can't fault them, got them fitted for €105 per corner 18".

They're on the soft side but I don't mind that over grip.

    Avoid federal tyres!

I know it's easier said the done stick to the names you know and trust already

Have you looked at uniroyal rainsports they seem to have good reviews and don't break the bank.

    Federal are absolute muck.

The thing is with the tyre size of the 6 is they are not all that common. Last time I changed them on my old one (replacing them like for like with the factory dunlops) it was 200 a corner. And for a decent tyre in that size that was around the figure.

Eek, I don't think think the €200 per tyre was the reasonably priced tyres the OP meant! But yeah your right though, for a decent tyre in that size you should probably expect to pay around that.

If money is tight you could go with second pre-used tyres. Being honest they can be hit and miss. One time I got them I got great value out of them, the other time they proved to be a false economy. I'm probably after opening up a can of worms with the suggestion anyway and I'm guessing the OP may not be inclined to go that route with a 2011 car anyways.

I had 195/65 R15 Federal tyres on a Vectra once. Wouldn't say they were the worst tyre ever but hardly the best either. They did last forever though, Ill give them that....which is possibly a bad point too as they were such a hard compound

They are an awkward size, the most common size in 18" would be 225/40/r18. As they are an awkward size they will not be cheap to buy and a lot of tyres centres will have to order them.

    I'd recommend these:
    http://www.oponeo.ie/details-tyre/vredestein-ultrac-sessanta-225-45-r18-95-y-xl#57442587

Had them on my old BMW with 18" wheels and they were excellent, decent blend of very good grip and wear. You will need to allow about an extra €50 to have them fitted and balanced if you buy online. However I would be ringing around tyre centres and see if they can order them in for you and fit them for similar money.

In that size wheel I would not be putting on cheap crap tyres.

That's a good price - where did you get them supplied and fitted for €105 each?
