I always buy my contact lenses online.
My opticians told me its illegal for someone in ireland to sell contact lenses online.
    Is this true?
surely specsavers would not be selling them online in ireland if it was illegal?

Don't think it's illegal but they aren't supposed to accept you putting your prescription details in from the side of a box and ordering whatever you want. Your supposed to provide them with a valid prescription specifically for the lens you are ordering. Contact prescriptions are only valid for 1 year

They're half the price where I order them online (brand names). I have a prescription but they do make you sign a disclaimer that you know what you're doing and you know the right lens for you, etc, etc...

Not sure how the generic brand name replacement sites work since you won't get a prescription for the generic ones anywhere

I use a website (won't name it if the practice is illegal), type in my prescriptions, from the same brand I used to get from my opticians but for literally one third of the price.

Haven't got my prescription updated in 2 years, should go for an exam soon.

It's not illegal provided the online seller has a professional on their staff.
