missed court date

I was stopped for not displaying my tax disc and told to present it within 10 days at my local garda station. I had my car taxed but kids had taken disc out of holder and I hadn't noticed. Even though I had my insurance disc and nct on display I was told to present them too.
Presented all three that evening and got a fine for not displaying tax disc, which I paid.
2 weeks later I got a summons for no insurance or nct and when I called prosecuting garda he said I should have presented insurance and nct certs rather than just discs. And as the summons had already been sent he needed me to turn up at court and show him the two discs and he would get the charges dropped.
To cut a long story short I mixed up my dates and missed my court date. Therefore judge dealt with the case in my absence. Can I appeal? And present my certs to the court?

Yes, but you need to do so quickly from the date of conviction. Get a solicitor on to it immediately.
