    Good thinking.
I think this is the best value for money.

I'm in the same boat - looking for a cheap laptop to replace my parents' XP desktop. They just need it for Office 2010, email, internet, photo storage.

I was looking at the Dell Inspiron 15 for 350.

How would that compare to the Asus?

Are there better alternatives for that price?

    Thanks

Its better than the Asus, coz you're spending an extra 150 euro on it.
The Dell has a nice i3 on it. The Asus does not. So the Dell would be faster.
Other than that, they're similar enough.

Oh sorry, the link wasn't working on my phone so was guessing that was the one I had looked at. Was sure therewas a non-touch 15 for around 350.

Must have been this 17 then at 380:

How about picking up a refurbished HP elitebook off ebay? Tanks of a yoke, normally come with i5/i7 processors, nice keyboards, just buy a spare battery and you're good to go

I think that is excellent for the price. From what I hear Asus are one of the better brand of laptop out there.

I've found that some people especially older people. Struggle with a laptop when they are used to a desktop.
