Applying for 2 roles in the same company

I think I know the answer to this but just want some advice.
I applied for a trainee role in a company just a few days ago and have since found another role within the same company that I would be equally suited to and qualified for.
These were both advertised on different careers sites so one hadn't come to my attention until after my first application. Also, both applications are to be sent to the same person.
Am I right in thinking I should not apply for the second role?

How similar are the roles? If they're similar career paths, then I think it could be OK to apply for both.

One is accounting and the other is tax. Two different functions within thesame business but as its a small firm the same person is in charge of recruitment for both roles
Also they are both trainee jobs.

Then they're related. Go for it.

Found myself in a similar situation today although they are completely different roles.

I've been applying for apprentice mechanic positions pretty much everywhere. I'm not getting far and it can only be down to my age. So last night a big garage advertised for apprentices so I sent my cv in figuring I'd nothing to lose. Then today they put an ad up for a parts person. I've worked in the parts department for a short bit when I worked in a garage last year and while I'd much prefer to serve my time as a mechanic, parts would easily be my 2nd choice, I actually really liked it when I was doing it. But now I find myself in the position of being fairly sure I wont get a call about the apprenticeship but I can hardly send an application for the parts job can I ?

I did something similar a few months back when applying for my current role

I ended up just missing out on one role but the manager was impressed and recommended me for the other role (which I just started this week :) )

So it can work in your favour

I applied for the second one.
It really annoys me when they never answer your email with an application. All it takes is a simple thank you for your application, we will be in touch shortly or something like that

Over the last few months I doubt I've even got an automated email acknowledgement of my application in about 5% of cases. It's ridiculous. I had an interview last month that I thought went reasonably well and didn't hear a word afterwards. You'd think they'd have the decency to spend 30 seconds to send an email.

Well any interviews i had i did get a rejection email. It would be nice to know my application was in the hands of the right person though

I don't mind as long as I get an email informing me if I'm being not shortlisted for interview. And most places do send these, in my own experience.

Happy enough with how the interview went.
I was in there for close to 40 minutes which i think is a good said. Any interview I've done so far has been half that.
They basically let me do the talking and I really focused in on my college work placement because I achieved quite a lot on that.
Towards the end we were talking about the training I would be doing and when I said I wax exempt from some of the professional exams one of them smiled at me. As it came to an end, I rather casually asked when could I expect to hear form them and one said it could be close to two weeks, that they had a few other interviews and he would be out of office for some time.
I wasn't expecting it to be that long and didn't saw anything but maybe my expression showed it, I don't know. Then the one that previously smiled at me said well it might be next week. So I left wait a fairly good vibe that he was impressed with me
