If any one else got hired recently as myself and knows how the hours and days will go please reply as im debating weather to take this job or not.. Iv been offered part time min 8hr contract an dont know if its worth signing off for i was planning on giving it a trial untill i found out i cannot get back on job seekers if i leave a job. Its a tricky one..

Would it be ridiculas of me to ring them and say i can only do 3 full days or full time otherwise its just not worth my while

As you have got the job , it would be a reasonable question to phone up and see what are min and max hrs over so many days could you expect to work,
can see your predicament, dont want to sign off if the hrs wont pay enough.
Anyway nice feeling to know you are wanted, good luck.

I could that would only work if one week is 3 days next week is more.. But for all i know it could be 4 or 5 days everyweek with only 20 hrs.. They say 8hrs minimum more depending on busyness an watever its just not worth the risk if i had trouble tryna get back on job seekers.. Im just hesitatingon ringin an asking for full time or 3 days.. Feel like iv been wasting there time kills me to turn down a job but its just not straight forward with pt work

Take it - a job is better than no job.

If you get 20 hours at minimum wage, that's still 173 which is only a fraction less than you'd get on JSA/JSB. And it's likely that they pay a fraction more than minimum wage, so you'd come out even.

No point in ringing them: they've told you it's an 8-hour contract, this is all they will say until they see if you're any good.

Most likely your shifts will be 4 hours long. So the only scenario which would see you down is if you get 4x4 = 16 hours. But if you're good enough to get that, then you're likely good enough to get more hours too, particularly if you are flexible and available at short notice.

I cant agree with that. 16 hrs 4x4 would be disasterous as id then need to leave an may not get back on JSA.. Ur forgetting petrol for 22km a day and parking ! This is only worth it if i got atleast 35 hrs lets be honest. The more i think about it the more i realise it wouldnt be worth it. My only hope now is that i can change to full time as they wore advertising ft and pt, but they offered part time but the excitment of a job just clogged my mind i should have said it when they offered me the pt contract

I hope you don't mind me asking but are you supporting a family right now?

If so, then i see that you may feel that the part time job is not worth it.

But let me share my experience with you. About 4 years ago, I was in a lot of debt and I couldn't qualify for social welfare because of my age and my parents income (they didn't want to involve social welfare in their finances). They were giving me a roof over my head but that was it.

I got offered a job in a retail store. I was delighted after having looked for a long time. It was 4 hours per week. It was a 20km round trip and it was 1 hour for lunch cover 4 days a week. Sometimes I would get a little bit more. I never grumbled and was always available. If my manager rang, I hopped in the car and was there as fast as I could. Eventually after about 5/6 months of working hard and putting my best foot forward, I was working about 30 hours a week. In just under a year, I was the supervisor and some weeks working 45/50 hours and never less than 39.

My point is that these hours could lead to something better.

However, as I said. If you are supporting a family or something then I see your dilemma.
