Are all cats competing together or is it A1 vs. A1 / A4's v A4's?

Hopefully, there's prizes / results for the fastest x in each Cat.

Wrong approach. It's all about the PAIN!

It depends on the numbers really and further the sub-numbers in each category. But yes we do hope to have prizes per "category" (A1->4, W, J, etc). We may have to do some grouping of course, such a A1&2, A3&4, but there is a prize fund in place waiting to be distributed and we'll try to be as equitable as we can relative to the profile that competes on the day.

From a CI points perspective, will they be regarded as separate races?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,967 ✭✭✭Plastik

I don't think there are any points awardable for TT's unless they are part of a stage race.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,910 ✭✭✭couerdelion

I'd love to give it a go but I can't really bring myself to pay €13.50 for a TT.

Is this because CI set a minimum cost?

That's a shame. I had thought Open TTs were treated the same as stage race TTs and short open races, i.e. 3-2-1 points for the top three.

Provincial executives set the maximum fee you can charge for a race. Current Cycling Leinster maximum is €15. Most races this year charge €12-15, which I think is fair enough.

From our reading of the CI technical document points are not awarded for TTs outside a stage race. We stand to be corrected on that of course!

In general how fast would one be expected to do a 20k course like this? 30mins or so?

30 mins would be a good bench mark to start with. The a1 winner will be faster. Probaly 44 kph to 48kph. Depends who turns up.

  • Registered Users Posts: 103 ✭✭Naas Cycling Club

Yes under 30minutes for the fastest guys is what we would expect. Closer to 25m if we have anybody turning up who is able to tap out 45k/h+ on that course.
The course is pretty flat so high speeds will be attainable, especially on the back-leg if prevailing wind is there. The first (and last) 3km does have some technical corners in it, incl. small bridges so this should suit powerhouses who can also handle their TT bikes.

    Thanks

Is there many women out there who would be interested in giving this a go?
We're trying to plan the split-up of the prize fund and are keen to have ladies prizes! But to warrant that we will need numbers on the day.

    Thanks

I can put it on the womenscycling calendar and other channels to promote it - do you need an indication of numbers beforehand?

    That would be great QuennsGael.
An indication would also be ideal but we appreciate that may be tough given the small numbers. If we can get a minimum of at least 3 women then we can have a prize for first as a minimum.

    Thanks

Don't think this was on the CI calendar but I am thinking of signing up. Seems like there aren't too many of these types of events in Leinster but I suspect there is a growing interest. The Naas Facebook page has the details - I see that it is mostly flat but there appears to be a few bendy bits near the start and finish which will make it interesting. Time to find my pointy helmet....

Entries are continuing to come in for this event; we will have an official start list for the pre-entered riders by Friday night. They will have priority on the morning. Those wishing to sign-on on the morning MUST do so before 9:30 am (9:15am for youth riders) so as to secure a start time. First youth rider departs @9:30 and once the clock starts we won't be taking any more entries. We have two of the best known and most reliable time-keepers in the country on the clocks so best to get your entry in before Friday evening to avoid any last-minute hitch.

Sign-on Reminder: FINLAY FORD PREMISES - M7 Business Park, Just off the Motorway Exit "Naas South." If coming from Dublin, exit at the motorway ramp, turn RIGHT and over fly-over, sign-on on the left 100m further on. If coming from the south on the M7, exit left, turn left and sign-on 50m on the left.

To confirm, we will be awarding overall prizes plus unplaced category prizes through all the grades, numbers permitting. We would be especially interested in seeing as many youth and women riders sign on; plus limited licence holders are eligible to enter. Our prize fund is sponsored by The Terrace Bar @McCormack's, Main St. Naas; we are grateful to club member Conor McCormack for his input and he will serve drinks and light refreshments at the presentation @12:00 in The Terrace Bar.

The current best for this lap is 29:58 for men and 35:29 for women; it is quite a fast circuit but the turns require good handling without being too severe. I suspect that looking at the entry list so far, these times will be broken on Saturday.

Further details are on the Naas CC facebook page under "EVENTS"

Good interest in our event for tomorrow morning. Some of the best known testers in the Leinster region will be there - Cummins, O'Brien, Haberlin, McDonagh, Delaney to name a few; expecting a few LucanCC heavy hitters and other TT specialists to arrive on the morning, plus we have some overseas interest too. Plenty of prize opportunities with various grades. Early showers should be replaced by drier roads once we start. Please arrive before 9.30 to guarantee a start time.

Great Event today in Naas; we had hoped to get c.30 riders and that is exactly what we got, including the flying Colm Cassidy of UCD who stopped the clock @24:56. That was 48.128kmh and given that there was a dead turn and some narrow bridges this is a seriously good time. We seem to have lost rider no.30 who disappeared at some stage and all we can say is that we hope he is ok. He might return his back number, perhaps at Mondello Park next Tuesday if not before then.

Racing wise, it was our first step in this direction; I think we will learn from it and consider hosting an even better one next season. There is an interest in the classic distances of 10 Mile and 25 Mile but some others prefer the "sporting" type courses. We welcome any feedback - and perhaps less vehicular traffic next time!

Thanks to all who made the journey and we hope the tea, sambos and cake afterwards hit the spot. Full results are on the Naas Club Facebook page - cannot post a link here unfortunately.

See some of ye at the national championships perhaps, and good luck.
