If I'm consistently getting 60 miles of driving for €10 worth of diesel at a price of 145.8c per litre what's my MPG?

40mpg at a very very rough estimation!

Youll need to be a bit more precise with your readings however; let the tank run empty, fill it to the brim (take note of how many litres this is), let it run down to empty, take note of distance, repeat a few times.

Bear in mind driving type will alter this quite a bit also.

You're getting about 40mpg, but the most accurate way of measuring involves brimming your tank and calculating exactly how much you use from the next fill.

This driving is town driving. So really I could expect about 50 MPG on the motorway then could I? When u say let it go down to empty do u literally let the car konk out or just down so the red light comes on? Whats the calculation to work this out?

    Thanks

39.77 according to my calculations, but as said above, you need to calculate it over longer period, using more fuel and mileage.

Don't let the car run down to empty, but consistently to under the last quarter. Fill the tank until the pumps clicks off. Reset the trip meter and note down the amount of fuel used. Repeat process two or three times and now you should have some good figures to work with.

Dont let the car conk out! Just pick a point near the empty mark and use that as "empty", the full it to the top. The more fuel that you use to calculate, the more accurate it will be.

To work out your MPG based on the figures that you gave (roughly):

    60 miles from €10 @ €1.45/litre
    60 miles from 6.897 litres
    60 miles from 1.532 gallons (1 gallon = 4.5 litres)
    39.16mpg

I'd say in general you could get 50 on a long motorway journey if you're getting that around town. You don't need to let it go empty, just fairly low. Then go to fill up, reset your trip counter at the same time. Drive around as usual and then when you go to fill up a second time take a note of your trip counter distance and how much, in litres it takes to brim your tank (until the pump clicks). Then if you want you can convert the kms you drove, if your trip computer is in km, into miles and the litres into (imperial) gallons using an online converter. Once you have miles and gallons just divide one by the other :-)
