The 1.9 TDi engine in the B6 Passat was only available in one power output - 105bhp.

Irish spec Passats were actually slightly higher than UK spec models. For example the Comfortline here had dual zone climate control whereas the UK SE equivalent didn't. Same goes with the Highline model, Irish Highline came with proper half leather/full leather sport seats along with auto headlights and wipers. UK Passat Highline came with cheaper leatherette seats and no auto lights or wipers.

    Irish models:
    Trendline
    Sportline
    Comfortline
    Highline

    UK models:
    S
    Sport
    SE
    Highline
    SEL

Thanks that explains alot. I own a 2006 vw passat 1.9 tdi SE it's a uk import from Scotland. What is the SE model like compared to other models especially the irish models? Is it true people say you shouldn't buy a car from Scotland cause the roads are always salted? That's what I heard after I bought the car

SE is similar to the Comfortline here but has silver trim around the dashboard instead of wood effect on Irish models. SE also has manual air conditioning whereas Comfortline has digital climate controlled air con.

    This is a Comfortline:

Regarding Scotland, well due to the above average ice and possible snow during the winter there is more chance of them frequently putting salt on the roads up there so that is where that came from. A lot of salt can cause rust to the underneath of the car which is common enough with UK cars especially the older the get.

As regards the models which models are the higher spec and which models are lower? So would my passat be a B6 passat? Sorry I'm just trying to get my head around all theses models and spec. Trying to get a better understanding of my own car compared to other models.

That was only with that generation of VAG cars, the last generation like the Mk. IV Golf, B5 Passat and A4's had 1.9's that produced 90, 100, 110 and 130hp AFAIK.

They've produced a great number of variations of the 1.9 over the years: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Volkswagen_Group_diesel_engines

List above starts with lowest spec down to highest. B6 Passat is from 2005 to 2010. B7 is from 2010 onwards but really just a heavily facelifted B6. All new B8 launched later this year.

There were 3 diesel engines available in the B6 Passat. 1.9 PD TDi 105bhp, 2.0 PD TDi 140bhp and 2.0 PD TDi 170bhp. 1.9 TDi was eventually replaced by the brand new 1.6 CR TDi 105bhp in 2010.

Technically it was four diesels right? Wasn't there an interim 2.0TDi with 110hp while the 1.9 was being phased out and the 1.6 to replace it?

Yes, it was a lower tuned version of the 2.0 CR TDi 140bhp.

There was a 2.0 TDI Bluemotion with 110hp alright. Neighbour has one.

That's true. They're called the Bluemoion 2. Mad long ratios in 3rd, 4th and 5th.
