This may sound simple but I'm a little confused on what the dipstick in the attached pic is checking... If I was to guess I would say transmission oil but not sure.. If anyone could clarify...

Sorry, should have specified... the red dipstick... long fella.. the hydraulic oil seems to be stored in a tank at the front under the pump so it's not that.. hence the guess at transmission..

Ya, if you look at the photo, engine oil dip is jus to the left of the fuel filter and then to right is a red handled dip that heads towards the rear of the digger.. if that is the transmisson dip.. is that the transmisson oil filling point just above it(silver cap)?

are you sure its not the hyd/uni oil filter is in the ''tank'' under the pump??
    should hold approx. 60L
id say with near 100% certainty your red dipstick is for back-end/uni/hyd oil...what ever your calling it yourself:)

Id hazard a guess that it is the transmission dipstick, the hx's had a panel in the floor of the cab to check it so id say they re routed it so you dont have to bring oil into the cab.

Surely a quick lie on your back in under it and you could follow the filler pipe to see where it heads would be the simplest way to check the filler neck, but again for the reason above id guess it may well be it

What colour of oil is on the dipstick? Black is Engine oil.
Pinkish red is Torque Converter oil.
    Clearish yellowish is Hydraulic oil.
Red knobs on dipsticks often signify Torque oil, or automatic transmission oil level. (Japanese & Mercedes automatic cars.)

red dipstick transmission silver cap filler afaik transmission takes multi purpose oil.
hydraulic oil in the front sight glass for oil in front of front axle hyd filter behind front grille.
