We're off to SE Asai in the summer including Thailand, we are flying in from Kuala Lumpur and will be staying around 20 days. However, we will be leaving Thailand by land. I notice the Visa Exemption says you must have proof of flights leaving the country within 30 days. Is this really looked for? I have only heard of 1 group who got refused.

I was in Thailand a couple of months ago and I didn't get asked for any proof on onward travel when I landed into Bangkok. I got an arrival/departure card which you need to fill out and then hold on to until your leaving the country. Queues at immigration were long but when I got to the desk, he stamped my passport, the form and I was on my way!

Its very rarely asked for .Just make sure to look reasonably tidy to make sure.
When you land by air in Thailand you will get whats called a 30 day visa waver stamp. When you leave Thailand will you be coming back again within a few weeks or not ? .I ask as the rules have just been changed ,and if you come back to a Thai border within a few weeks you will be told that you need a proper Tourist visa from an Embasy or Consulate outside Thailand.

Hi, I'm travelling over in 2 weeks with a few friends. We're there from the 7th of June to the 18th July. We arrive into Bangkok and planned on moving pretty much straight onto Camoboida followed by Vietnam and Laos before arriving back into Thailand and were hoping to spend the last week or 2 going to Koh Phi Phi and Koh Phnagnan.

I was under the impression we could just get a visa extention for 15 days on re-entering the country. Will we have a problem at immigration do you think? We're likely to cross back into Thailand from Vientiane around 4 weeks after we first arrive in. Any advice would be great

Because of the new rules ,that just came in last week ,when you come back to Vientiane ,you will need to get a Thai tourist visa at Vientiane at the Thai Embassy there. If you want you could first try at the border for the 15 days ,and if unsucessful take the 60 minute trip back to Vientiane .Getting the visa takes 2 days .You apply day one and collect it day 2 .
N.B.Reading the notice again you will probably get the 15 days on reentry,as you will do so before the August dead line .read this ,http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/725610-thailand-visa-crackdown-banning-walk-in-visa-runs-to-begin-august-13/

I am currently in Thailand, arrived into Bangkok Sunday and no new rules applied.
I just went to the border agent, got my picture taken, passport handed in with arrival card filled out.Passport was stamped no questions and off to get bags, through customs to taxi, all in a few minutes.

You would not be allowed on the plane if you couldnt be allowed in as the airline bears the cost of deportation.

Are the new rules you speak of,just to do with entering ,leaving and returning inside 30 days because there certainly has been no change on first entry as of sunday for Irish passport holders anyway.

Did i say that there was a change on first entry ?I certainly did not .I spelled out step by step that on first entry by plane you get a 30 day visa exempt stamp as before.
If you then leave Thailand and try to come back without a proper visa such as a Tourist visa ,within a few weeks ( i dont know how many ?) that is where the new rules will hit you .
