    Hi,

Does anyone know where I could get a 3 metre (or longer than the standard cable) for a HTC / Samsung phone? In Dublin preferably.

Is your charging adapter one of the ones with a standard Type-A USB lead plugged into it? Just extend that with whatever length of USB cable you want.

Yeah, but where would I buy the longer USB cable?

Pretty much any electronic goods store - Maplins, Harvey Norman, etc.

a lot of petrol stations have them now oddly enough.

seen one selling a 10 meter iPhone cable (why you'd need that much i'll never know)

PC world, curry's, maplins, etc. will all have them.

ask them for a USB A- Micro USB. Should be grand then.

Or bring the cable in with you, and ask them.

It's not for me - it's a gift. So I don't have the actual cable / charger, but I know the phone model.

An ordinary male-female Type-A lead will do it too, though - it just sits between the supplied cable and the charger unit.

I bought one at the weekend in the pound shop in the Ilac centre for €1.50!

3 metre cables generally don't hold the amperage so your device may take twice as long to charge.

I think what's really happening in these cases is the charging rig is depending on the cable to short the USB data lines and drop the battery into fast-charge mode. In that case using a male-female Type-A and preserving the OE supplied cable will circumvent this.

No , its to do with the spec of the cable more than anything. Supposedly there are thicker cables that will deliver more amps but I haven't come across them yet.

Ah yes. Probably the dearer ones are using more/better copper.

Well it's for someone who is going into hospital and from experience, the plugs are far from the bed, which makes using the phone kind of difficult, so trying to make it easier for a few days anyway :)

Figured you had a reason alright. If you don't find one in town there is usually at least one Irish eBay seller that would deliver the next day.
