Last time I bought these was a few months ago at about 5.90 or so, Yesterday I was charged 8.20 for the same box (24 Capsules). Was I ripped off by the shop or have they gone up in price that dramatically in a few months?

I believe the manufacturer has increased the cost price in the last few weeks.

There's an identical tablet with a different name, much cheaper; ask the chemist. Not a good idea to take a lot of Solpadeine and its ilk, though.

Maxilief, im not sure if they come in the 12/24 pack or are prescription only.

Maxilief dont require a prescription, and are 5.99 in my local mccabes, and are manufactured in Ireland. they are identical in active ingredients too to solpadine. A wise pharmacist recommended them to me.

FYI the Generic name is Co-Codamol

    http://www.chemistdirect.co.uk/co-codamol-8-500mg-tablets/prd-5n

    1.28 Sterling in the UK.

They are addictive though so I wouldn't recommend popping them the whole time.

I know you're talking about Solpadeine but just to let you know-Nurofen Plus seemed to have shot up too. A 24-pack is €9.50 in my local chemist.

Shortage of opium to make the codeine as far as I remember. Branded manufacturers will then want to protect margins hence even higher hikes.

A lot of people say the amount of codeine in these types of pills is so little that it adds very little value/effect, if any.

Which is extremely dangerous considering the other non-codeine ingredients.

Paracetamol when taking in excess quantities which is actually very low can cause liver failure and death. Thats why they are sold in packets of up to 24. Codeine is highly addictive and people in Ireland are going to rehab for it(they are listing codeine as their sole addictive substance)
