Removing clones?

I bought a Ion Icade and HP Touchpad and grabbed the 0.139 romset for the corresponding version of Mame4Droid.

There's 8800 roms. Once I got Mame4Droid to filter out the clones and non-working games I was left with 3600.

Since it's a 32gb HP Touchpad I could really do with the space (I have 500mb left on the SD card partition!). Is there something that will separate the wheat from the chaff? I found a program called RomLister but not sure how accurate it is.

I'm a bit of a Mame noob so possibly I might need those clone roms I don't know....

Thats exactly what I've been doing as of late with the iCade!

However, I am taking them one by one from the complete 0.139u1 rom set though, and everything is working fine so far.

I think youre better off taking them from a matching romset, as oppposed to downloading them seperately, as a lot of downloaded ones wont work with the particular version of mame youre running.

The only balls of doing them one by one is having to check what the filemame for a particular game is on sites like mamedb.

The only roms you need are what are called the "parent roms".

They're easy to spot as the filesize is always several times greater than the clone zip files.
I think the clone zip files just store differential data or something.

You can check which are the parent roms on the site http://www.mamedb.com.

Mods, please note that mamedb is merely a mame database site and contains no links to roms whatsoever.

Theres another site with paradise in the name that will tell you the parent rom but i cant link to that site as it has roms on it.

I hear that if you were an emu you'd probably be in paradise.
