Hi moved into this house I am living in nearly three years ago, I had asked a local man had he a house to rent, has a few houses to rent here which he gave me this house. Filled out all the forms for the rent allowance I pay him the rent every week and if there was any problems he fix them.

When a letter came out for proof of ownership I went to him then he realised his mistake and I found out he is not the owner of the house. His nephew is who is over in England. This fella built the house then later sold it to his nephew.

Now he is saying I am going to get into trouble. I am starting to have panic attacks because of this. I had them for 2 years but I have been good for the last year but now this has bought them on again. What am I gonna do.

Can he not just get proof of ownership sent over from his nephew? You wont get into trouble for the uncle filling out the forms, they dont have to be filled out by the owner an agent of the owner can do it such as the uncle.

He put down his details though that is the problem. He should have wrote down his nephews details on the rent allowance form. So the property tax form is in the nephew name and the rent allowance form has his uncles name down in the part where the landlord fills it out.

That's surely his problem then? How would you get into trouble, you have paid rent in good faith with a paper trail (I hope) a rent book and/or from your bank account? He's the one in trouble since he wrote down the wrong details.

I am sure one phonecall to Revenue from him will sort it all out.

I think the issue is that the owner is a non resident landlord, there was a case where the renter had to reserve an amount of the rent to cover tax for a non resident landlord, but I am not sure if that is still the case.

did the letter come from the social welfare office or from revenue?
