Fas Courses-Java/Web dev

    Hi Guys

Unfortunately I was let go recently. I was primarily sales based (IT), and to be honest after 10 years of it I burnt out and that was starting to show in my figures.

I am taking the opportunity to re-skill myself, because at 33 yrs old now is the time to do it I think. I have always dabbled in a bit of web development and java.

So that brings me to the question as to if doing a fas course in on or all of these areas is worth it? As pure entry level, will an employer take a fas course qualification seriously?

    Any help is appreciated here

When looking at the FAS courses, they should say something about their accreditation. As far as I am aware, FAS just facilitate the teaching of these courses - e.g Java certification, COMPTIA A+

These are industry certifications that look good on the CV. I signed up for the Java course, and it is slightly out of my depth to be honest. I have done modules on SQL and that, but it is slightly too advanced for me learning it via online teaching. I have asked to transfer over to a project management cert. Fas pay the fee to do the professional exam ONCE. If you don't pass, you have used up your go essentially and you have to pay if you want to take that exam then. Fas just has tutors to show you how to do the exam and prepare you for the exam. It's not accredited by them (speaking specifically about the I.T courses they offer). Unless someone else can explain it any better, thats my take on it anyways!

Look into Springboard and ICTskills. I am doing a Masters via Springboard in Financial Information Systems. I have had 2 interviews so far and I have a telephone interview on Thursday as well. I do not have a Financial background, or an I.T background. I have possibly the most varied CV when it comes to education but I am getting attention which is the main thing! This had not been a "career choice" of mine, but the way I see it, I would not have even been looked at if it twice if it wasn't for Springboard. And I don't mention Springboard on a CV, interview or anything.. My tagline is, work dried up and I decided I needed to go back and re-skill and do a Masters....If ya have any questions on Springboard if it interests you, I'll try explain any parts I can to you.
