S2 dying - what next?

My two and a half year old S2 is on the way out - at the stage where things are slowly failing but nothing catastrophic yet. I'd like to replace it in the next month or two.

Looking at either the Nexus 5, S4, S4 mini or the Moto G. I'm not sure if I want a phone with a very large screen - I use my phone as a music player in an armband for running with, and keep it in the back pocket of a bike jersey when cycling, so I wouldn't mind keeping the size down (which would be a slight nod towards the mini, but not sure if worth it!). Camera is a bit of a factor since I don't own a good separate one.

Nexus 5 is a little more expensive on bill pay for me than the S4 (£29 upfront + £35/month vs £29 upfront and £32/month), S4 is a good bit more expensive sim free though. Moto G is of course dirt cheap sim-free...

I'm with 3 UK at the moment on a very cheap sim-only plan (£13/month for unlimited data and 200 minutes/texts) and relatively happy with them because I'm a gigantic data hog and reception is relatively good in north London.

    Any suggestions?

Moto G, no need to go for anything fancier because the phone is excellent, so cheap as you said and has great specs as well as a worth upgrade from the S2. If you are buying in Ireland, buy one off Meteor online as a new PAYG customer for €149, pop in your 3 SIM immediately as it has SIM Lock and will lock to the first network it detects and throw away the Meteor SIM (which will come with it but not in the phone).

PS: I've convinced 5 people (including the missus from an iPhone 4S) I know to switch to the Moto G, not to mention telling an eMobile shop owner who was selling them but thought it was nothing more than a Galaxy Europa like phone - he has sold out of them about 4 times at this point, prior to me talking to him he'd sold a handful. Really is a great phone for its price.

are you 100% that it has no sim lock?

I wouldn't be buying it in Ireland - would be ordering it on Amazon.

Yes 100% until a SIM is popped in, then it locks to that network. It is also available on Amazon and Tesco and the unlocking codes are available for £2 on eBay.

Love my S4. Don't like the S4 Mini, as i'm used to the big screen.

Nexus is also a great phone, and vanilla android is nice :) Have no exp with Moto G.

Would only advise the S4 if you are going to root it and remove the bloatware. It's good out of the box, but getting rid of the junk really makes a difference :)
