Smart TV - how to watch / rent new movies

    Hi,

Honestly I am not usually this stupid and can figure these things out ....sorry if this is in wrong forum too I wasn't sure if it should be in broadcasting.

We have a smart tv and are happily watching Netflix etc. However, what is the best way to watch new release movies online through tv (renting / buying). Our DVD stores are all closed so have to get with the times:-)

We have iPads and android tablets, laptops etc. Do we need to download to them first?!? Am not too keen on using iTunes to buy movies as restricts us to Apple??

Also, we have lots of old DVDs how do I start converting them / saving them to watch on tv (without DVD player).

Sorry if these are too basic questions!! The kids will be old enough in couple of years to take control of the technology issues:-)

    Thanks for your time

    A Frazzled Mum

    UPC on demand.
    Sky On demand.
You can share downloaded movies on your laptops/pc's and watch them on your TV.
You can rip DVDS easily to AVI or mp4 formats (link to sw that does exactly that)and share them on your network or stick them on a USB key or external hard drive and attach to the USB port on your TV.

Thanks a mill for reply - we do have a SKY HD box so can do on demand alright. Just haven't before.

Naively I thought there was a website or somewhere that I could stream movies directly from? We are going to disney in few months so wanted to watch dumbo, Aladdin, cinderella, snow white, lion king etc etc and was trying to figure best way of watching them without buying DVDs.....wanted to get with the times so to speak.

Will start the task of converting our old DVDs:-(

I realise these are 1st World problems but trying to figure it out!!

    Thanks

I use smartshare on my 42LN LG Tv to share movies and tv shows from my PC. I haven't tried any of the other premium apps except for Netflix which we use all the time.

There are apps like amazon and "Movies & TV series" also, perhaps theyre worth taking a look at?

Never heard of smartshare - sounds like something I need to investigate.
    Thanks so much

Its LGs file sharing software. Install it on a pc/laptop that has mucic, movies etc on it and point smartshare at the folders they are in. Then You can access them from the smartshare icon on the telly that is on the bottom of the smart menu, about 3 or 4 across from the left.
