im a named driver on my gf's insurance, the policy expires during the summer at which point i hope to have a full licence and sort my own car out.

she had an accident a few weeks ago nothing serious just backed into someone but its going to have to go throught the insurance due to the ridiculous price they were quoted to fix it.

im just curious as im a named driver will my named driver experience no claims be affected the 1 year i would have gives me a few €€ off quotes

No, you should be OK. She had the accident and you will have driven 1 year claim free.

sorry for jumping on but I wonder what happens in the reverse that is if the named driver is at fault and a claim is made. Does this then affect the main drivers policy...? just something i wondered about

IMO you NCB collected as named driver will be affected.
You still can say you didn't have any claims or accidents in last X amount of years, but you can't use your NCB collected as named driver on policy which had a claim and therefore NCB lost.

    Yes.
My wife was named driver on my policy, and she had an accident.
I had NCB protection, so my NCB was saved, but otherwise, I would be down to 0 from 5 years NCB.

You don't collect a NCB as a named driver on any policy. However, some insurers will allow you discount based on your proven claim-free driving under another policy. The poster will be fine

but wouldnt it be the policy holders no claims that would be affected. as far as i know the policy holder is affected whoever claims because its their policy. but i would assume any NCB i have in my own right shouldnt be affected by a claim not made by me.

The policyholder has a claim registered against their history and the driver has an accident registered against their driving experience. Bonus protection is a side aspect of it all

i know its not technically an NCB but most places ask when giveing quotes, and iv noticed a difference in price with most of them when you have a year as a named driver

Yep, most insurers will do that. It's a commercial decision
