Mrs. is dead set of a crossover.

Our choices as I see them are:

    Qushqai
    Yeti
    ASX
    Sportage
    ix35

She does a fair bit of milage 25 - 30K per year) so fuel consumption is high on the list.
Right now Qashqai and Yet are top of the list for value / specs etc...

    Any recommendations ?

The ASX has the best engine, but depreciation should be fairly sharp. Great warranty though.

Ix35 I'd say is the best value of the bunch, sportage seems overpriced in comparison.

Yeti has the most questionable looks

Consider a VW Tiguan too. They're long in the tooth now so there might be some leeway discount wise.
Missus's dad has a Tiguan and drove the Yeti and Sportage at the time, said the VW was much more refined and nicer to drive.
I've only had brief spins in either but I didn't see much difference,

Would you not rate the Nissan (new model qashqai) at all ? - it's cheaper than than the ix35 and has good specs.

It also claims 74 mpg (combined cycle) whereas the ASX claims 54 mpg and the ix35 53. Think the Yet greenline come in around 61 mpg

Hard to ignore the Qashqai (well, I did!)
It'll probably retain good resale, and they're certainly popular. There seems to be a lot of hire drive ones around.
If it actually does anywhere near 74mpg ill keel over.

Even if it does 10 less I'd be well happy if we were getting 64mpg

Still have not decided but it's between the Qashqai and the ASX now.
The Qashqai is nicer inside but not as roomy - also I'm not sure about the renault/nissan diesel engine. I think the ASX would be a better engine.
I'm leaning towards the ASX as I've had a pajero before and couldn't fault it - the wife is still undecided....

Much as I love that engine, the rest of the ASX is a decade behind the old model Qashqai not to mind the new one.

How long do you plan on keeping it?

The new Asx has a very good spec asc standard in my opinion.
We'd probably keep it for about 7 years, but at least 5. So we want a good reliable car, not just one that has bells and whistles.

    I can see your dilemma!

I wouldn't get too excited about Qashqai reliability. If I were keeping for 7 years I'd nearly get the ASX or a nearly new Sportage.

Which Will retain most value ? I'm quessing Qashqai .. but I could be wrong with ASX 8 year warranty.. oh and women just love Qashqais ...

Qashqai will undoubtedly hold more value, but could throw a wobbler too and negate those savings, 7 years down the line (like 07s now) is a long time anyway and neither car will be with a lot relatively speaking.
Mini SUVs may have gone put of fashion by then too.

Are they for both of the newer models?
Also any idea of the engine sizes those figures came from?
ASX claims about 54 or 55 for the 1.8 diesel whereas Nissan claim 74 for the 1.5 diesel (which seems wishful thinking)
I must take a look. I'm not familiar with that forum...

Yep, but we'd still get 5 to 6 years out of that and more if she changes jobs to something more local, and still way better than the Nissan 3 year. ..

Thats very good 90000 km I thought was the norm and something the op should consider
