Original Xbox modding problem - Slayers disc

    Hi Guys,

I'm trying to make a mame cabinet and recently just purchased an old poker cabinet for it. I managed to soft mod my old xbox crystal and to have the evolution x dashboard without any trouble. In my wisdom I decided to try to switch the default dash from evox to xbmc and (thought I) followed the procedures. This was disastrous however and led to what I think was a bricked console (blank screen after opening xbox logo and I could not access the xnox through ftp either).

I searched through the web and found a disc call Slayers Evox Auto Installer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2N48Sn_sI4) and this at least gave me some options, which again (I think) I followed correctly in order to install an evox dash like I had originally, but it has left me with this screen, which although it allows me to boot up games is kind of useless to me for what I want to do.

Has anyone here ever had this problem and used this installer disc and if so can they give me some help. I have tried numerous attempts at different options on the disc but always end up with the same screen.

    Thanks

an update to this is that I think I have everything installed where it should be (I'm no expert but looking at the folders through FTP I have a few dashboards in my APPS folder), but for some reason the console wont boot into any of them.

    How did you modify it?

splinter cell soft mod exploit. I tried to change the default.xbe from evox to xbmc and ended up scuttering it somehow.

The irony is that when you do connect to it via FTP it looks like all of the stuff that was on it after the soft mod is still there (the slayers disc rebuilt it all for me, wiped the drive and put the evox installer into it) ... though there must be something wrong somewhere if it won't boot to it for me.

    It's probably something very simple.

Hi - I think your best bet is to start over.

I suggest you get the slayer disk iso (google it) and burn it to dvd. Run it from launch dvd - rebuild your xbox - restore it to 5960 - this removes the softmod. Then delete every thing from the xbox memory apart from sid and splinter cell gamesave exploit. Run the Splinter Cell disk and re-do the softmod. Then download xbmc junk edition iso - (google it) - burn it to dvd and click on installer and it should startup in xbmc from now on.

I hope this helps - let us know how you get on - I'm really interested in your idea to build a cabinet. I installed a 500 gb drive on mine and it is running Coin Ops 6 - it is sweet but a cabinet would be unreal.

I wrote the following below in a thread here a few years ago, its been a few years since I did a softmod. Make sure you have your eeprom backed up in a few places, with that you can really fix any problems.

what I do is install the xbmc folder in e\apps so its E:\Apps\XBMC . in the tools folder rename Team XBMC.xbe and Team XBMC.cfg to default.xbe and default.cfg respectively. ftp these two files over to e:drive replacing current default.xbe (my evox boot files are in e\dash, your softmod must be slightly different) reboot box and it should boot to xbmc.

I'm sure I did do a full rebuild already with a slayers iso disc and it finished etc, but I always end up staring at the same screen no matter what I do ... at one point I did a full xbmx install (via the slayers iso) and still nothing. The only difference is what shows up installed when I connect via FTP.

Just try the procedure I mentioned and finally use the xbmc junk edition to install xbmc.

just seeing this after answering your pm so you got it done. Don't bother with the slayers disc get heimdalls hexen disc and just boot it up and reinstall softmod from that, can also install xbmc from it and change dashes and if your xbox is anything under a v1.6 you'll be able to use it to tsop it much, much better than a softmod can do loads of other stuff aswell. just check it out on goggle you won't be dissapointed
