will have a look at that, thanks Fresh Pots

Did the same myself and samsung repaired it citing the problem as a "calibration issue"
I was honest with them and told them a rom install went tits up on me.
Cost me nothing more than postage in the end.
I tried a lot of fixes on XDA but had no success.

thanks tallus, did you ring them direct or through a website etc... could you pass me on any details please.
feel it might be my only option.
    cheers

I called the number on the Contact Us part of the samsung site, and they took my details, and referred me to the Samsung repair centre in Norwich.
    www.samsung.com/ie/info/contactus.html
    Anovo repair centre : www.192.com/atoz/business/norwich-nr6/mobile-phone-repairs/a-novo-uk-ltd/9968b8cc-c30a-4982-9fc3-5da74d6773eb/ugc/

I had to post the phone to Norwich after samsung set up the repair.
Best of luck with the repair. All I had to pay for was registered postage.
It took them several weeks to do the repair.

Sorry about the late reply, was off doing weekend stuff (glug glug) :-)

I flashed 4.3 via Sammobile and imei sorted itself out. Happy days.

New issue- in yellow writing on screen
    PDA.......
    PHONE.......
    CSC.......

Something to do with imei files getting corrupt, now anyone know how to get rid off it, found something on xda forums, have to root and enter data on terminal eliminator, have I any other options?
    Cheers

There's a fix for that on XDA developers dude. I got it too ... It's called factory mode.
I can't totally remember but I think if you do a factory reset it clears the text from the screen.

factory reset did not fix the issue for me tallus, but thanks

quick fix below, well it worked for me, thanks to xda again.

"Guys to fix this you can also do it in root explorer. See below. Go to efs / factoryapp / factorymode. Click on it and in text viewer check that it says 'on'. If not open in text editor and change to ON."

NB: I rooted my phone to get this sorted.

    Hey all,
I have a borked Samsung Galaxy Nexus with the generic IMEI!? Every single ROM I have flashed so far and none of them can connect to the mobile network :-( Mine is not a stolen phone or anything like that! I just want to set the IMEI on the box\under the battery on the phone to the one that shows up in my phone settings. The phone was working fine until I flashed the latest beta update of Paranoid Android!! Can ODIN be used to flash stock with a Galaxy Nexus!? I used the Nexus toolkit to flash stock but the signal did not come back :-(

Any help on this would be fantastic!

    M

I recently had this problem after flashing a new rom to an S3. The solution I found was updating the phone modem. When I looked back on the thread on xda where I initially found the rom I flashed I noticed it also linked to a modem upgrade. I gave it a shot and found that it restored my network connectivity and IMEI no problem.
I've seen others suggest this helped them too in other threads relating to other roms.
It might be worth looking back through the thread related to the rom you flashed to see if there's any mention of something similar for you.

Thanks mate. I have flashed the modems recommended in the thread by others but no joy. My EFS data seems to be gone completely or is corrupted and I need to get this back somehow to fix the issue.....

Damn, really hope you get it sorted. My heart nearly stopped when it happened to me last week, especially as it wasn't my own phone.

It's looking more and more like I will have to bring it to one of the Chinese shops here in Dublin mate. I assume they will have specialized equipment to flash it back to the correct IMEI.

I had serious hassle with a lost IMEI last week, on a Galaxy S (i9000).
I had a backup of my EFS folder but could only restore it by flashing one particular ROM (MIUI) then using a tool called Galaxy_S Unlock (non-play store version) to recover the efs.

In the end both Odin and Heimdall were eventually able to get the IMEI back by flashing a Stock ROM (gingerbread).

Thanks mate! I have used the Nexus Root Toolkit by WugFresh to flash back to stock but still no network coverage and I still have the generic IMEI (004999010640000)!? Can ODIN be used to flash a stock ROM to a Galaxy Nexus!? I have used it loads of times to flash other Galaxy phones with stock ROM's. If so I may try it.....I've tried almost everything else at this stage!!

Flashing stock to my Note 2 using odin didn't restore mine, but it might work for you.

Sadly I had to call Samsung and they got me to ship it to the Anovo repair centre in the UK. cost me nothing to have repaired, as the tech guy quoted the problem as a "calibration" issue.

I know someone else on this forum has been able to restore an imei after flashing stock via Odin so you never know, it might work for you.

If you have a backup ? You can always do a restore.

I don't have any backup mate.....that is the thing you see :-( Can ODIN flash a stock ROM to a Galaxy Nexus do you know!?

XDA might be a better place to ask, you might find more people with more experience of your phone, not to discount the good people of boards who've often sorted issues for me. Hope you get it sorted.

    Tried this NV thing ?

    www.droidviews.com/backup-and-restore-lost-imei-on-samsung-galaxy-devices-without-root/

It's about half way down that page.

Also.. I'm just wondering if it would be possible to edit an existing EFS folder to suit your device.
    Just thinking out loud here.

I got one of those boxes the Chinese guys use. Changing ROMs all the time. Worked on my galaxy nexus, s2 s3 and s4. Had the box for a while now. Got it off fonefunshop.co.uk

Have you tried the program called QPST its a tool made by Qualcomm. You can use that to restore the number. Its a bit complicated but it will do the job on the galaxy nexus.

Hey mate, where are you based? Would you be willing to help me out!? Do you charge for the service?

    All the best,

No mate, not even heard of it!? Do I need any special hardware with the program?

    Thanks a million,

    Instructions for qpst .

I'm in Galway. Qpst doesn't need any special hardware just a windows PC. I do charge but only a few euro. Know quite a few people who like to mess up their Samsung's.

Give qpst a go first if you can't figure it out. I could maybe do it for you over team viewer or something.

Hello mate and thanks for getting back to me! The thing is from the link you provided when I type *#22745927 the hidden menu will not appear on my Galaxy Nexus!? I can't go any further in the guide without getting into that menu!? Does that code work for you?

    Thanks,
    M

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 112 ✭✭ianblyth

    Are you running stock.

try *#7284# without using the other number... on some of the samsung phones you had to turn on hidden menus and others not.

it's been a while since I played around with the galaxy nexus..

Yep, on stock 4.0.4 Jellybean and neither of those numbers get me into the hidden menu  I'm starting to think the Galaxy Nexus does not even have this hidden menu!?

Sorry just looked up the specs of the galaxy nexus. It has an arm cortex a9 in it and not Qualcomm. So qpst won't work.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 112 ✭✭ianblyth

Iv heard that the Chinese guys charge about 15 euro should only take em 5 mins.

Now that makes sense and why the code would not work! I priced the z3x-box and it's a whopping £96 :( I might be best to head to GSM Solutions who quoted my around €35!!

The guy I asked on Capel Street wanted €50 but I will head up to Parnell street at the weekend and see how much they are looking for to fix it!

    Thanks,
