The Kia C'eed 2008 has an on board display which tells you how many MPG you are getting. I was test driving one and on the M50 it was only telling me I was getting 37MPG. According to the spec the diesel should be getting 60MPG on motorways.

    Any ideas / thoughts?

Could have been showing average mpg, or engine may have been cold, were you doing much more than 100kmph?

First of all, manufacturer's specs for the most part are pie in the sky and carried out in test conditions as opposed to real world conditions. It's standard marketing to make a product more attractive.

Secondly, on board computers are not known for their accuracy in measuring fuel economy. In order to get a more accurate measurement you need to use the brimming method and a bit of maths.

Between 100 and 110 for about 10 mins.

Thats not long enough for a reading.
Average would be over distance travelled and reading would be low as you had to start slow stop/start then speed up onto motorway so you would only see higher figures after 30mins and more of a drive.
