I'm just wondering if there's a beginners guide to rooting and all the various terms that are in use when it comes to phone development?

    This too shall pass.

Try XDA, rooting can be model specific, if you have an android device search on there as it has info on most android devices.

Might seem like a big project looking at the link above but its actually fairly straight forward. xda also has step by step instructions for any of the roms on there. If you plan on using an official Cyanogenmod rom then search for CM installer and that does the whole thing for you pretty much.

I'll go. With XDA Developers too. Great resource.

There is a big selection of How To's at www.modaco.com. Every type of phone is catered for there.

I found Android Central to be very useful also.

XDA is phenomenal, usually a dedicated forum for each phone.

    XDA and Android Central.

    Google for everything else.

Once you root one phone, you'll be well able to root most others, it's a fairly straightforward process.

Get a cheap practice phone (Galaxy s2, or a HTC desire) and root them as practice. Then flash a few custom roms to get the hang of it.

    No bother :)
