Can anyone tell me if a bank identification code (SWIFT)/ABA Routing Number is the same thing as a sort code? Thanks in advance.

No, the BIC is the same for every customer of a bank,

    ie:
    Bank of Ireland: BOFIIE2D
    Aib: AIBKIE2D
    Ulster bank: ULSBIE2D
    Permenant TSB: IPBSIE2D

Then the IBAN includes your sort code and account number.
