    Hey all,

Just looking for advice on new wheels...Ideally i'm looking for new quality wheels that will last me a long time without giving me too much trouble...

Been off the bike a while, so will be starting into slow and hoping to up my mileage to 250km a week(not a huge amount i know)

I'm just wondering what sort of wheels would be good for me, no intention of racing(yet)

Cheers guys, i'd be willing to pay upto 250 for a good set, ideally i'd like to spend 300, but don't think i'd be doing enough to justify the money, as i need a few other bits and pieces

You'll never be able to justify the money spent to someone who doesn't cycle. Don't even try.

Open pro rims on ultegra hubs handbuilt by Humpheries Cycles in Finglas, in or around your upper limit price wise.
You will get a light serviceable wheel with readily available spares.

Justify it to myself, I'm single but I go through spells of being super lazy so having a bike and equipment worth over €1,000 sitting in the corner unused will make me sad...Also have a habit of when i'm in the mood really pushing myself very hard on the bike, which has lead to a few injuries in my time:(

    Hey again,

Cheers for the advice with the wheels, I just wanted to ask about tools to repair chains? I just want something to have in my saddle bag in case of a break when i'm on a spin...

    Cheers again

You can get a multitool with a chain tool in it. Like this:

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ie/en/park-tool-i-beam-3-mini-tool-ib3/rp-prod15443

    (assuming you're not running 11sp)

Great price on the wheels, they usually retail for 250 here. I am starting back myself and built my bike up but my old wheels were banjaxed so I picked up a set of 4za stratos wheels with tyres and a cassette for 200 off adverts

I used to big a big fan of Aksiums, have used them since 2008. However last, 2012 version, set gave up ghost at under 10,000km. (rear wheel failure, front is still like new). I weigh just shy of 80kgs

Have read other lads on here posting similar mileage and multiple spoke breaks etc.

Have a think about hand built. More serviceable and if made for you should last a lot longer.

You'd pick up a front wheel cheap( I have 3 spare front wheels) and get rear built for your budget

Think they went down from 20/24 to 20/20 iirc, probably why.

    Hi All,
I've to get a new set of wheels for the bike, its my first time to upgrade them so looking for some help/advice. Mavic appear to be very popular but I see some good reviews of Fulcrum also and these look around €100 cheaper.............thoughts?

Feel free to suggest alternatives if all the below are rubbish for me (90)

    Fulcrum Racing Quattro €259 - https://www.bike-components.de/products/info/p32774_Racing-Quattro-CX-Laufradsatz.html

    Mavic Cosmic Elite €359 - https://www.bike-components.de/products/info/p26048_Cosmic-Elite-Laufradsatz---Auslaufmodell.html

    Mavic Ellipse €359 - https://www.bike-components.de/products/info/p26046_Ellipse-Laufradsatz.html

    Cheers

Mavic Ellipse are track wheels. You can't use them on a road bike.

Re the chain. Get yourself a few 9 speed SRAM power links as well and carry one in the saddlebag for potential repairs. Nine speed chains ar epretty robust but I suppose you never know.

Re the wheels the Mavic Aksiums are pretty solid for what you are after, Cyclesuper Store do a deal with tyres for about €160 ish around this time of the year might be worth contacting them.
