    Hi all,
Might be obvious to some but I have some questions around pre-reg cars being sold by dealers

    (1) How do dealers make money on them if the just register them and then offer them at a lower price ?
    (2) How much cheaper is a pre-reg typically ?
    (3) What are the pros and cons on pre-reg as a buyer ?

As I said, sorry if this is an obvious question but it's hard to find these exact answers !

    Can I add one question?

(4)Why are dealers pre-registering the cars?

    (1) How do dealers make money on them if the just register them and then offer them at a lower price ?
They get a rebate from the distributor, or are pre-regging to hit a target, again there would be a rebate involved for hitting a target.

    (2) How much cheaper is a pre-reg typically ?
Depends, any ones I used to do would vary from €800 to €1300 depending on the model, but there's no set figure.

    (3) What are the pros and cons on pre-reg as a buyer ?
    Pros- its cheaper.
Cons- extra owner on logbook - never found that actually devalued a newish car though

OK- so the distributor does not make as much money per sale, but makes up for it based on number of sales then. Correct ?

I presume you mean this is off what you would let the car go for new as opposed to actual new list price ? (as you'd generally bargain that down as a buyer)

Yep - I don't think 2 owners (especially if 1 was the garage) would really devalue say a 5 year old car that much...

Distributor may have over ordered, or has an impending new model, or some reason why they need to offload certain cars.

Yeah, let's say a dealer can get a Corsa from Opel for €12000 and the list price is €15000. All of a sudden there is €1000 rebate from opel for every Corsa registered as a demo model.
Reg a few of them, advertise them for €13,500, anything over €11,000 and you're laughing
    (Made-up figures)

2 vs 1 owner isn't gonna devalue it. Once you get into 3 owners in 3-5 years you're in trouble.
    Not your problem though.
