    Hi Lads

Im interested in buying a honda accord , trying to get rid of my BMW 3 series as I have nothing but trouble with it.

Only problem with the accord I was told is that the tax is nuts until 08 models or so , is this true ?

    Thanks

    Presume diesel?

The motor tax system changed over on 1 July 2008 from being engine size based to being emissions based. Cars first registered between 1 Jan and 30 June were given the choice of whichever was the cheapest rate. In most cases this meant diesel cars were cheaper to tax under the new system. So a 2008 Honda Accord 2.2 diesel costs €390 to tax per year whereas a 2007 Accord 2.2 diesel costs close to €1000.

What you need to take into account too however is that a cheap to tax 2008 Accord will cost substantially more to purchase over a 2007 Accord as the resale value of the 2007 Accord has the higher motor tax built into it due to less demand. Everyone wants a cheap tax version so purchase prices remain high.

    It's €710 for a 07 2.0 litre petrol so no biggy really.

True hopefully be less expensive repair bills with it anyway that would make up for bit of higher tax rate overall!

Just taxed my accord for 6 months. €551!!! Worth an extra couple hundred a year though as a costly breakdown wouldn't see that money. Honda's are more reliable than most of direct competitors.
