No disability allowance and unable to work full time - PRSI implications etc

    Hi,

My wife has a chronic illness that stops her being able to work full time and she was refused disability allowance due to what I earn (which is a small bit above the average industrial wage). She receives no social benefits at all.

I am concerned that she will be missing out in PRSI stamps and possibly other things as the best she is able to work is part-time (this varies depending on the activity of her condition). She is studying part-time at the moment to try and improve her chances of a least a decently paid part time job but this stops her being able to work as studying and working would be too much.

    1. Can you get any benefits of disability despite failing on the means grounds? i.e. should she be following that up in some way? and can she still get recognised as disabled as such?
    2. What is she supposed to do about PRSI (and anything else I am forgetting about) since at best she will be able to sporadically work part time for the rest of her life?

I am trying to figure out if there is something we should be doing to protect her in the future (i.e. applying for something etc). She from another EU member state where they don't do PRSI stamps and where she was legally recognised as disabled (income is not taken into account to be recognised there).

Any advice anyone can give would appreciated.
