    Hi Everyone,

One of my friends is in the following situation.
Mature student, attended PLC fetac level 5 course, receives BTEA.
All started out very well, but due to sickness and also personal family issues missed an awful lot of time and has now more than likely failed that course and will not receive the fetac level 5 award.

He has been to an interview for level 7 college course which went very well and will hear back from them in a few weeks.

If he is accepted into the level 7 course, will his BTEA continue as it is a progression from Fetac level 5, (even if he does not receive/fails the level 5)?

Thanks to anybody who can help.

    1.14.8 Drop out of course

A BTEA participant who fails to complete, or drops out of a course will not be permitted on to the scheme to pursue a different course unless the Department is satisfied that certain circumstances pertain. The condition may be waived where there are mitigating circumstances, for which evidence must be provided, that would make it unreasonable to expect a person to have continued the course. Recovery of amounts paid may be considered.

Thanks very much for your reply.

Does the above still apply if the different course is still actually a progression though?

The Fetac level 5 is not a requirement for the level 7 college course. If accepted it will be because of how his interview went and his suitability from past work experience and interest in the course etc.

The college have said that the plc is not a prerequisite to be allowed onto the course.

So if accepted into college on the level 7 in a course he has huge interest in, would they still refuse the btea based on not having the level 5 certs, even though technically he was still progressing in levels?

If so I'm guessing he may have to repeat some of the plc exams in August although there may be some trouble with being allowed to do that due to attendance.
There was a death in his family and he may be under the required attendance to be allowed sit repeats.
