Trying to decipher cartell...

I'm looking to buy a 2003 civic which is has been out of tax since 10/13.

Cartell says the tax expires in Feb 2015:

    Tax Expiry Date

    28-Feb-2015
    31-Oct-2013
    31-Jul-2013
    30-Apr-2013
    31-Dec-2012
    30-Sep-2012
    30-Sep-2011
    30-Jun-2011
    31-Mar-2011
    31-Mar-2010
    31-Mar-2009
    31-Mar-2008
    31-Mar-2007
    30-Sep-2006
    30-Sep-2005

Before 2005 it was "tax exempt".

What's going on here? Is it taxed or not? Anybody know?

Also, there was a recent change of ownership on 4th March. Should I be worried?

    Also:

    Dates of Sale

    4-Mar-2014
    5-Aug-2010
    13-Jul-2010
    6-Oct-2005
    18-Aug-2005

The main reason I did a cartell check was because I wasn't able to insure it. The insurer thought it was an import, which it is not.

    1.6 SE Saloon? Most un-Irish!

It's not a uk import though.

My guess it was originally vrt and tax exempt for a disabled passenger.

Really? Why? You think it's an import?

    Nice car though eh?

    Looks great to be fair.
Back bumper is a bit shabby

    Slightly concerning

That's not the transfer to the dealer,

Seems to have been thrown around a bit with the old change of ownership yeah. Can you hazard a guess why?

Any idea on the tax issue? As you can see in the pics, the disc says 10/13 but cartell says 02/15

If there's a warranty on this thing I'm 90% sure I'll buy it. Just need to figure out why the insurance company won't insure it. In fact they're not even sure why they can't insure it. The guy on the phone guessed that it's an import.

Carsireland free report says it has no tax.

Owner may have died and it got transferred to a family member who traded it in/sold it to garage - something like that.

Garage may have sold it, turned out to be a pup and they had to buy it back

    Who knows!

Any idea why Cartell says it's taxed til 2015? I'm a total n00b with this. Thanks for your help.

This may be a too-good-to-be-true thing. I really want to buy it though. Looks really American.

I'll bring the cartell report tomorrow if I decide to view it. The dealer will probably hate me.

Is it possible that it's declared off the road?

They did sell the saloon in 1.6 litre petrol back then, rare as hen's teeth though, this being Ireland.

If it was taxed till 2015 you can be sure they'd mention it!

Pre vrt price may have been the same as 1.4

Tax doesn't matter once you buy it tbh. Last car I bought privately was 17 months out of tax.

    I don't think that's the issue though.

This actual MODEL (4dr saloon 1.6 i SE) doesn't appear when selecting cars on 25plus.ie insurance. Even the guy on the phone is stumped. He has to talk to his manager about it.

I didn't even read the bit about insurance. I was just thinking about the tax.

Sorry I guess my first post was all over the place.

    Issues are:

Insurer can't insure this car. Doesn't know why. Doesn't exist on his database.

    Tax is confusing.
