Dont rule out something dead in the wall either

Pull it out and clean the coils. I agree with the dead mouse theory though, from nasty personal experience.

It really does smell like something has died somewhere. I have cleaned out fridge three times trying to get rid...looks like it will have to come out. I am not doing that, tis a job for mr caustic.

I had a dead mouse in the wall once, then a fly infestation for weeks. It was f*cking horrible.

I know you said the smell is vile. But try and smell where its coming from. Only then can you get rid of it.

Is the smell coming from a box?

Did you put your junk in a box?

I'm surprised nobody suggested yet to burn your house down to get rid of the smell.

Backwards guy did suggest burning newspaper...so close enough.

drain at the back of the fridge. We had this smell before. It's the overflow from some part of the fridge and the heat at the back makes it smell rank

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,314 ✭✭✭caustic 1

I will thank you for all suggestions

Nest of dead inbred rats in wall cavity. Foul.

Did you recently move in? Some tenants like to leave dead fish behind fridges and stuff.

how old is your smelly appliance?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,382 ✭✭✭petes

As others said it's probably a build up of gunk under the fridge. Had it a few years ago and it was rank, had plumber out and another few guys who lifted that bit of wood in doorways. Then then cleaned the crap under the fridge and smell was gone.

Integrated fridge about 2 years old.

Plastic around a dead body will start to degrade after about 18 years, good luck with that.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,635 ✭✭✭Pumpkinseeds

There's a tiny drainage hole in the middle of the bottom shelf in our fridge that used to get blocked with bits of stuff and that can cause a stink. Check if it's that. It could also be a little bit of meat or fish that got dropped behind or under the fridge and rotted.
You don't have any blue cheese in the fridge do you? That stuff is rank, my husband loves it, I can't even be in the same room when he's eating it.
