Swiss friends visiting Ireland want see a rugby match

    Hello everyone,

A couple of friends from Switzerland will be visiting the Emerald Isle this year from August 23rd to September 9th. They are hoping to see a live rugby match as they've never seen one before (rugby isn't exactly a huge sport over here).

So here's my question: will there be any kind of rugby match in this period anywhere in Ireland?

Thank you in advance for your help! :)

The first week of the Rabo is usually the first weekend in September.

I'd be almost certain Leinster will have a home match during that period, whether it be a friendly or league match I dont know. Tickets are normally fairly reasonableas well.

There should probably be league games involving all four provinces on the weekend of the 5th - 7th of Sept, but the fixtures haven't been announced so we can't say for certain. You'll have no issue getting tickets.

No fixture list as of yet but you should be able to catch a pre-season warm-up match at any of the provinces - although they may be playing away.
The Pro12 tends to start during the first weekend of September so you should be able to catch one of those

EDIT: Weirdly enough having had a quick scan of Leinster fixtures, we haven't had an opening Pro12 game at home since 2007!

Thank you all for these replies! :)

So the best bet for now is keep our ear to the ground and wait for next season's fixtures to be announced. Any idea when this is usually? Around June perhaps?

    Thanks again guys!

    Stéphane

Munster have been playing London Irish at home for the past few years in August. Sale , Gloucester, Leicester & Wasps have all featured too.

That could be a winner as I believe they will start their visit in the South and work their way up!

    Hi guys,

Any news regarding the 2014-2015 Pro 12 fixture calendar? Can't find anything myself...

29th August Leinster are playing Ulster at home in a friendly at 1900.

Muster play London Irish the same night at 1930 in Thomand.

Nothing yet. Fixtures prob won't be announced for another 2-3 weeks.

Leinster play Ulster in a pre-season friendly on the 29th, most likely in Donnybrook. Tickets are usually very cheap (€10-€15) and can be got at the gate generally. The squads will be weakened squads (more like an A fixture), but it's the only game actually scheduled for now....

The Leinster Ulster game would be good from a craic point of view, though it's a friendly and most people will be there for an excuse to get out of the house for a pint or two.

Would be nice to play someone other than Ulster for a change.

Although I suppose it will be a good opportunity for the pub carpark handover of Jared Payne along with his paperwork, NCT and two sets of keys :P

It's only the second year in a row playing Ulster in a pre-season though. And last year was up in Ravenhill. On the other hand this will be the 4th year in a row that we've played Northampton. In fact since May 2011 we'll have played Northampton 7 times come August, which is a lot for a team from a different league.

The home friendly this year is in the RSC in Waterford. Plus it's Thomond ;)

Thanks for all the responses lads!

So to sum up, the RaboDirect Pro 12 sates have not yet been announced but there are two friendlies already organised on August 29th:

Ulster -v- Leinster in Ravenhill at 19:00

Muster -v- London Irish in the RSC in Waterford at 19:30

    Correct?

No, Leinster play Ulster in Donnybrook in Dublin.

Keep an eye on the Leinster, Ulster, Munster, and Connacht websites as they'll be updated with the fixtures as they're made.

Thanks Winters, I think that's the one they may be going to see. Munster is playing at home on the week-end of 5/6/7 September (Pro12) but the exact date doesn't seem to be confirmed yet...
