Drive along pigeon house road ( near the east link and you'll get up close and personal or alternatively head towards Dollymount strand and you can get a good capture

I always prefer the view from the southside, Strand Rd in Sandymount. I think it's a better composition. Which is a pain in the neck as I live on the Dollymount side. :(

Take a quick google image search and pick which view suits your 50mm best.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

You can get good shots using a telephoto from Grand Canal dock, however some of the brown buildings down in rings end ruin the shot, so you need to end up cropping the pictures.

I took the below from Green St. in GCD

You could walk out south wall either, although I've only been out there at night.

    Hmmm ;)

Hey OP. In my opinion, Sandymount strand is the nicest to take pics from. I was out at bull island lastnight taking some picks with the 50mm and it's not bad either. I just don't like the industry of the docks in my images. Contradicting statement there, I know.

The Strand Road has a pretty good vantage point. Snapped this one the other week with my iPhone as I was on the bike to work and didn't have my big camera with me.

+1 for Sandymount Beach, you can get take a walk out to the Irishtown Nature Reserve from there too to get up close. My pic below is taken with a 50mm from the promenade in Sandymount
