It isn't. The Castrol equivalent of the range-topping Mobil 1 full-synth is Castrol Edge, and it's usually dearer.

Just in general I am asking. If I was buying oil for either the pinto 10w40 or the Astra 5w30 even though the dealer uses the 10w40 on the Astra

Let me guess - the dealer has a 55-gallon drum of 10W-40 semi in the corner of the workshop that gets used in everything, and he's of that "'tis all de one, a litre is eight horsepower" school that holds that Ile is Ile! :pac::pac::pac:

They reckon it is meant to have 10w40 but I have rang a few other dealers and they say 5w30 is the recommend oil but 10w40 won't do any harm.

Ya I know it's meant to have 5w 30 but 10w40is what is put in when the dealer services it. They where a Opel dealer but not anymore.

I have a 2006 Astra 1.6 and I definitely wouldn't use 10W-40. 5W-30 or 5W-40 should be used, at least A3/B4 Spec.

AFAIK all Halfords-branded oil is actually Comma oil.

It doesn't meet the specification. The viscosity grade is wrong for that engine.

I got 5 litres of the Halfords 5w40 diesel synthetic oil for about 31 euros with an AXA card. This oil meets the RN0710 standard that I need.

Any motor factors that I tried wanted ~50 quid for a 5w40 RN0710 oil.

Halfords brand oil is good value at its normal price. Then when you take account of the 20% Easter discount and another 10% if you have (or can borrow) an AXA card, it's very good indeed.

Halfords has ridiculous prices for some things eg bulbs but value can be had with other. I recently got a battery charger for ~76 (with AXA card) which is competitive with the best online prices. The same charger is 111 in Argos.

They don't sell cheap RN spec oil. You have to buy the castrol stuff for big money. I got it on misterauto for 30 euro not inc. delivery. I was getting a load of stuff so the delivery charges weren't too bad. The halfords price is pretty good. It's impossible to get cheap locally as brian said.
