I have a recurring issue with the emissions light coming on my vectra diesel. I cleaned the EGR valve recently and the emissions light came on afterwards. Got a local indy garage to read the codes and clear them also. He said there were many codes there and probably there with a long time. Light stayed off for a week but on the way home from the shops this evening the light popped on again. Any ideas on whats causing it? Are there ways to read the codes other than with an Op com transmitter?

Tbh, Id plug it in again. If there were a load of results the last time, it does indeed muddy the waters. Whatever fault brought on the light this time round will likely be alone so it would point ye in a better direction.

Ya he only charged me a tenner the last time so another reading wont break the bank. Are there any other items that can cause this light to come on intermittently like that?

Have the car only a fortnight. Clean the EGR when I first got it and code came on. Garage cleared the code and now it has re-appeared. Mixed driving really short trips to work during the week and longer trips on motorway/ main roads at weekends.

It needs the long drives to clear it have you brought it for a good spin and not afraid to rev it a nice bit.

The problem is the short trips as the car never gets to heat up properly and cause faults.

Also if it doesn't get a good drive and you are doing the eco driving it can show errors for the turbo also as it isn't been used properly if you get what I mean.

Had this problem when my dad drives any car I have with a turbo/diesel as he isn't the fastest, he can drive fast but wouldn't boot it to get it up there.

The short spins can be tricky.. If its not affecting power or efficiency... Is it affecting start up or idling?

its not affecting anything at the moment! Car starts and drives 100%.

Bit of black tape tape over the light then:D
But yeah, plug in. Whatever it is probably will be either small or intermittent.

The vectra is booked in to have the codes read on Saturday morning. Have a feeling it's an EGR problem. I've purchased a blanking plate for this and am strongly considering using it to bypass the EGR valve. Has anyone experience of doing this? Will the car still pass the NCT emissions test? Is there much to deleting the EGR from the ECU?

If I press the mileage reset button I get these numbers. Is this anything to do with the fault codes. Tried a pedal test but doesnt seem to work on these cars :(
