Garda Caution

I was recently caught shoplifting, and I know it is wrong, I am quite stressed at the moment. The Garda who was called out took my details and said that he was giving me a caution and would contact me and organise a meeting time within the next two weeks. Does anybody know what I should expect at this meeting due to the caution?

It's a caution, less serious than a charge. I'd imagine you'd be questioned in the line of: why did you commit the crime? And to find out steps to be taken to avoid a repetition.

It usually means a meeting with a senior officer. You basically have to explain what you were up to, that it was a once off and tell them about your background, future plans etc.
I wouldn't knock the caution system. The caution prevents you from getting a court conviction. A lot of young lads act the bollix with a few drinks on board. It would be wrong to have a conviction against them but no harm to give them a good fright

It's like a get out of jail card, everyone gets one caution for first offence (unless it's a serious offence). It won't show up as a conviction but you only ever get this chance once
