Peugeot 107 or Fiat Punto

    Hi!
I have a question about a car for rent rather than purchase.
I'm researching renting a car for a 2 week holiday in the summer. We only need a small one because there are only 2 of us.
The two cars it's boiled down to are the Peugeot 107 and a Fiat Punto.
Which would be preferable in terms of comfort (I'm 6 feet tall), drive, safety etc. I saw a Toyota Aygo yesterday (apparently the same as the 107) and it looked as though I'd hardly get my legs under the steering wheel.
I'm not keen on Fiat. I've driven a few over the years and they always seem to have very tough gears. I remember in one case it was nearly impossible to change down from 3rd to 2nd.
Any advice would be most appreciated.

Grande Punto is from the next segment up from the likes of a 107/Aygo. The Panda would be similar in size to the 107.

Also take note that there is no guarantee that you will get either car on the day when renting. It usually means you will get an available car of similar size.

I appreciate that the car I end up with might not be either car, but of these two, which would be preferable?
My two main concerns are that the 107 would be so tiny I'd hardly fit in it, and that the Punto would be a nightmare to drive because of awful gears.

Punto anyday! They are quite nippy for a 1.2L. Peugeot 107 is only a 1L.
Nothing wrong with gears on a punto. Also decent amount of room them.
Fly up to 80 Km/h in second gear ha

I'd chance the 107, you'll probably get upgraded to punto size anyway
I'm 6'1 and can drive an aygo no bothers. Obviously the punto is bigger and has an actual boot and glovebox that you can put stuff in.

    Thanks.
The weird thing is that the cheapest class in this particular company is called "Class C, Punto or similar, manual".
The next class up is "Class CA, 107 or similar, automatic"
The price is pretty much the same. Class CA is a few cents more per day, so the Punto would actually be slightly cheaper.
I'm actually thinking of going with the Punto, despite the fact that I'm not a great Fiat fan, but I haven't made a final decision yet.

You're paying extra for automatic. You don't want an automatic 107 anyway.

    Are they crap?

    Unbelievably crap

    Do they actually move?

    Do they actually move?

Ah yeah, they're great craic to trash, but the auto box is useless in auto mode, you have to drive it in tiptronic mode really, and you have to let your foot off the accellerator when its changing gears or its jerky. Just a pain of a gearbox.

I'm not sure I know what tiptronic mode is.
Sounds like a pain in the neck.
I think I'll go for the Punto, even though my instinct, which may be mistaken, is to avoid Fiat.

I assume we're talking about the latest Punto, the Mk3?

    I've no idea.
I've attached the picture from the car rental website, but that's not necessarily the same as the car you actually get.

Well its been out since 2005 so you'd hope it was the current one :)

    Thanks for all your help.
I think I'm going to go with the Punto.
Despite past bad experiences with Fiat, it sounds better than the 107.
    I'll report back in mid-August.

I saw a 107 and a Punto parked next to each other in a carpark today.
The Punto looks much better, no doubt.

The Punto is one of the biggest superminis. Almost verging on Golf class. The 107 is a city car, great little car at that but no comparison. The Panda is in the same class.
