Any site give rough trade-in values likely to be offered by dealers?

There used to be books printed in the UK that would list approx prices for trade-in, private sale, dealer sale etc.

Is there anything like this for RoI ?

Wondering what I could expect if I traded in my 2010 Focus, 1.6 TDCi, full service history, 50k miles.

Yeah, I remember various dog-eared copies of Parker's Used Car Price Guide around the place when I was a nipper. There's the Car Buyer's Guide effort here:

The trade have a price guide book that they use, it is similar to the Glass book used in the UK. However the motor trade here are not as transparent and don't share it with the general public.

Anyway the trade-in price will ultimately depend on a number of factors, what you are trading it in against, how much the dealer thinks he can sell it on for, supply and demand of that particular model, and how much the (second hand) car you are looking to buy owes the dealer. Trade-in prices can be distorted to look very favorable when in fact the price of the other car is high to compensate for a generous trade-in price, so the important figure is to concentrate on is how much it costs you to trade up.

BTW the cbg value just calculates the average asking price of similar models on their site which has little bearing on the trade-in prices.

    ^ +100 what bazz26 said.

FWIW the retail sticker price for them seems to range from €10,950 up to €12,500 on DD.

Is there anything to be said for selling it privately and then doing a straight cash deal on the replacement?

I understand that not everybody is in a position to do this, but if you can, it could be worth it.

Yeah seems to be a big range on prices for similar models.
Mine priced at the lower end, and hope to sell privately and then go to buy with cash.

Just was curious as to what a dealer might value my car at if I was to go looking.

    €12,300 for a 2010 Style 5dr Hatch with 80,000km. €750 more for a Zetec.

I was looking €10700 for mine.

    Underpriced?

Is what you're after fairly generic or do you want a specific model?

Go to 3 or 4 dealers - how much is that? What p/x for this? Thanks.
Once you have a list of comparisons go back to any that interest you and tell them "you said 10.3 but Bill is offering 10.8"

I used to know a guy who did this all the time just for the hell of it.

    Good Luck

Trade in's are all smoke and mirrors, it's really the cost to change that's important.

My figures are what a dealer should offer you off the full retail price of the car they are selling you.

    E.G.

You're looking at a car with a sticker price of €25,000. Dealer should sell you that car at €12,700 + your own car (presuming style model).

In reality, he's giving you €10,500 for your old car and selling you the new one at €23,200. In that case, he's making roughly €1,000 on the cost price of the new car, and should turn €2,000 profit on the trade in.

Important figure in the above example is the €12,700 cost to change.

You might go to another dealer who'll offer €10,000 for your trade in, but his car is only €22,000. You'll be upset that he's offering over €2,000 less for your car, but in reality it actually costs you €12,000 to change, thus being a better deal than the first dealer.
