Ring of Kerry Training

So I'm cycling between 30 and 40k, 5 days a week, and a few lads in work are on about doing the ring of kerry this year. My problem is I don't really have the time to schedule a long training spin at the moment.

Given that I only want to make it around would I get by with what I do at the moment or am I in for a tough time without hours in the saddle?

Your in for a tough day...the ROK is 160klm. You need to get out on your bike for a few 100klm spins

You'll be grand. My first time on rok was after only cycling for a few weeks. The longest spin I'd done before it was about 60k and I was only getting out twice a week.

Take it handy, stop at good stops, have a chat with other cyclists, enjoy the sun and scenery and you won't even notice the miles fly by.

Your doing 200K a week? You'll be fine for the ring of Kerry. No bother at all.

I did the ring of Kerry for the first time last year and I wouldn't worry too much about it given the amount of cycling you're doing at the moment and the time you have left. You're doing more than I was at this point last year.

Definitely try to do a 100km spin soon though so you will get a feel for what that kind of distance feels like in your legs though. I was used to 50km - 60km spins.Try to schedule a couple more before the event and keep your weekly distance at what you have been doing and you definitely wont be suffering on the day and will be able enjoy it more.

If you are doing an Avg of 35k/day over five days consistently then you will be more than fine. It's a nice cycle, you will be tired after it most likely but thats to be expected.
Totally doable on what you are doing.

    Sorry to hijack this thread,
Does anyone have a rough training guide/plan for the build up to this, starting now for someone carrying "a few.......:o" extra pounds?
Or any details regarding the training side of it? Just want to enjoy the day, stop a few times, enjoy the atmosphere and just make it to the finish line...
