Hi there, I'm new on here and need a little advice about my car.
I have a 1996 BMW E36 316i saloon. I was checking the engine today just for oil levels etc, and when I was checking the air filter I noticed a crack most of the way round the large rubber hose that connects to the air filter box with a jubilee clip. I have temporarily sealed it with insulation tape and it seems OK at the mo', but my question is, what is the part called to be able to buy a new one?
    Any help appreciated - Steve

If you type in the last 6 or so characters of your VIN into this site, it will give you all the parts for your car. You can then find the part number and ask BMW if they can source it.

No worries, the site isn't the easiest to navigate, but it does the job and it has pictures/diagrams too. If the price ends up being pricey, you might be able to source one in a scrappy, or just keep your fix. It'll be grand enough I reckon, maybe use something stronger.

Alan, I have looked on the site you suggested and entered the last 7 digits of my VIN number, and nowhere in any of the catagories, is it showing the air filter mechanism? I have been through every catagory but no joy.

Yeah that's really weird, I'm looking myself and can't see anything. I just took a guess that it was an M43 engine...that site has never let me down before. I wonder if google will be much use...

hi Steve, the part is called a boot,
I have had to go to main dealer to go buy one my self some years ago for my lovely beautiful E36 ( RIP) , I paid €40 for it , its seen as the only part you will get in a main dealer for reasonable money !!!

Yeah seen a couple on eBay too for about £23, not too bad.
Also if anyone has one or know anyone with one, I'm looking for a rust free drivers side front wing in white?
Filled this one to death after hitting a full grown deer on a country lane last year.
I'm in Wakefield west Yorkhire UK BTW, if anyone has one close by?
