Mouse upgrade for a logitech mx 518

I have had my logitech for nearly 5 years.
Its starting to show its age a bit and is getting a bit battered.

Could anyone recommend a similar mouse, perhaps slightly bigger in size. I have big hands :)

I play a fair bit of MMO's, (ESO, WOW + Eve to name a few)

It will be used for general use as well.

A few extra buttons would be good for mouse bindings for said games. I would rather a wired mouse as well.

There are so many mice on the likes of Amazon so any thoughts would be appreciated. Budget, sub 100 for sure. Less is grand too.

    Thanks in advance.

I am very boring, so I will recommend bullet prove solution. Deathadder. Very simple, very reliable and works like a clock all the time. I had more expensive and with more features products before and they all went to my electronics graveyard.
I got my Deathadder 3.5g for some time now and my next mouse will be Deathadder again ( if this one breaks down). There is a reason why this mouse is still in production and being updated for so many years.

I have the Corsair Raptor M30 its a great mouse really responsive and has 5 buttons - I play WoW but use a razer orbweaver for that....

Logitech have a new one out ..G502..11 buttons on it.
I have the G9x and love it but starting to find I need one or two more buttons at least for my games..Its all FPS I play so its not like I need a million or so for RTS etc.

+1 for the Deathadder. I moved from the MX518 to a Deathadder and it is an improvement.

MX518 is still the best mouse ever. All you need to do is replace the low-friction contacts at the bottom (Polytetrafluoroethylene feet). If these get scratched/damaged the mouse won't glide and thus be useless. You can buy replacements for cheap. Same goes for any mouse really, usually these are what wears out.

Check out the few posts in the bargain alerts discussion thread. Some nice mice listed there.

Oh yeah, bits of sellotape can also work very well to fix damaged mouse contacts.

    Maybe not a bad idea

I have a hard mouse mat atm, a razor vespula one and its nice.

Might be a bit tough on the underside of my mouse.
Will google where to get new pads later.

Wasn't there a load of tracking issues with the firmware where it wasn't a 1:1 deal?

Not with the original. The "new" ones had issues apparently.

The mx518 has been rebadged by lots of suppliers, many people use one without even knowing. The one I have is asus branded and about 10 years old. Can't even read the model number anymore, all the text has worn off the bottom :p

I got the logitech one years ago in PC world. It was around 70 euro, alot at the time but it has lasted. I had burned out a few cheapo ones in the year before that.

New mechanical keyboard is the next buy for me but thats another days work.

Boxed 518's have gone as high as £150, but you can get a a whole shell for a tenner if your optics are all good still.

I dread the day mine breaks. I've been talking about picking up a spare since they rose over £50, but never got around to it.

I've used the g4/5/700 and I'm not sold on any. They're updating the G400 (s?) to be more 'natural' like the 518, but I haven't heard much more.

I'd rate the death adder better than the g400>700>500
And the one to go with if you want something new. It's comfy.

I've also played with a perixx and they're pretty good for the low budget.

Good mouse, only problem I have with it is the outer covering on the wire fraying away.

Had a Deathadder until last year. Upgraded to the Deathadder 2013, which is basically the same mouse, but it's new ^.^

Two side thumb-buttons, mouse wheel, and the two buttons up top. Very nice feel, esp if you have big hands (your hand sits on top, rather than it sitting in your hand like some of the smaller mice).

It also has a leftie version if you are a left-handed person.

I went from the MX518 to the Razer copperhead, then to the deathadder.

While it's a good mouse and fit for purpose, I've contemplated going back to the MX518. While they are no longer manafactured, they were originally made in MASSIVE supply, so you can still get them in the original packaging for about 40 euro on ebay or amazon. I think my Dad still has my old one, might take it back for a lend.

I know there has been a real jump to using multi button mouses, but I still just feel more comfortable hotkeying to the keyboard. The only functionality I get from the deathadder is one of the four buttons to use for mumble/TS etc.

I've seen the mmo type mouses with multiple buttons, look WAY too cluttered for my liking.

mx 518 here also, heading for 5 years old, by far the best mouse ive ever used.
Bought a corsair yoke last year meant to be a great yoke, was the biggest pile of crap ever, sent it back for refund after 2 days.

Im always on the look out for a replacement for that inevitable day.

My mx518 died so went for the g502, bit pricey but I`ll get the use out of it

The g400s is the closest thing to the mx518 in Logitechs current lineup, it has the same shape and size but also is one of the very few on the market with an excellent sensor with no inbuilt mouse acceleration.

The Deathadder 2013 also has no inbuilt mouse acceleration as does the zowie fk. I would get the deathadder if you want a claw grip or the zowie for an ambidextrous user.

I moved from the MX518 to the R.A.T 7 and I really like it.

I got myself a RAT 9 because I wanted wireless, but I still have the MX518 plugged in because I don't trust the RAT9 not to start acting up again (had to get original replaced due to faulty optical sensor)... I like the RAT mice alright, but I've had my 518 for 6 or 7 years and it's still good - they're an excellent mouse, and there's good replacements out there - but they'll be different.

Just pick one - it'll be grand after a few years and you eventually get used to it :)
