    Now it certainly looks the part but i'm sceptical that it's actually *really* old...anybody got any opinions?

    No, sorry, I will not permit this post. The use of metal detectors in Ireland is highly controversial and governed by the National Monuments Act. The possible legal implications for boards.ie would be my main concern and as I noted in another thread on this forum before Collectibles and Antiques will not become embroiled in discussions about the use of metal detectors. There are other fora for that outside boards.ie.
