    Hi All,

I purchased a Canon EOS 1100D a couple of years back. I've recently began using it more and more. The lens I am currently using is a standard 18-55 lens that came with camera.

I'd like to upgrade it to a new improved lens. The pictures I love taking are of landscape. However I don't want a lens purely for landscape photography. Can anyone recommend some decent lenses? I am reading a bit about the Sigma lenses, has anyone got experience with these? My budget is around €500.

    Any advice greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance,

    John.

for €500 I might go for a second hand Canon 17-40mm, I have that lens and on the crop sensor its a great match

Hi, thanks for the reply. I'm hearing a lot of good things about the SIGMA 10-20 lens also, great reviews regarding landscape photography in particular. I can get the Canon 24-105 for €650 2nd hand in a camera shop in Dublin.

i have the 24-105, thing is when it's on a crop sensor it won't give you a wide option for landscape, it's a super lens, don't know about the sigma, but if you have the option to go for the 17-40 or the 24-105 that would be my pick, as there l series quality and perfect if you ever upgrade you full frame down the line

Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM for just under €500. I have not found it cheaper anywhere else. It got a great review in PhotoPlus. I ordered one a few days ago.

Cheers for the info, I found it on dabs a while back. Be great if you could let me know what you think of it, when you have used it for a few days!

My new lens has just arrived. I'll test it over the weekend if the weather isn't too bad.

I finally got some time to use my new lens. Very pleased so far. It's amazing how far away objects seem compared to a regular lens.

Thanks for the link (nice picture), I think I will go ahead and purchase it. My old lens just isn't good enough. Many thanks for the feedback.

    Cheers,

    John.
