The Bay Run

I am currently training for my first marathon (the Cork one) and it is going well, not sure i will hit the pace I want but pretty confident about completing now (did my first 20 on Sunday!). I was looking at the Bantry Bay half and wondering about doing it or whether it is too close to the Marathon itself that it could have a negative impact - does anyone have any opinions?

Cork is on the 2nd June and Bay Run is on 4th May I think, so roughly 4 weeks left of training after it.

That leads me on to a secondary question, I followed a plan which is Mon - Sun as you would expect the plan to be, of course Cork is annoyingly on a Monday (such a daft idea imo) but I am wondering how to change that last week then before the race itself

Current Plan is supposed to be 3m, 4x400, 2m, Rest, Rest, 2m, Marathon. As I have he extra day to put in there should I just do another 2m the day before and leave as originally intended? thanks

Personally I wouldn't do the 2mile the day before the marathon....

If your going to do the last taper run then do it on Friday or Saturday and rest Sunday (I'd likely do Friday myself),

Don't be too caught up about the week before the marathon, you're tapering anyway so really doing 2-3 2 or 3mile runs is perfectly fine and is more then enough

The Bandon half marathon is a day earlier & €20 cheaper, problem solved ;)

I would imagine running 13 miles four weeks before Cork wouldn't be a issue unless you really went all out for the half. What does your training plan have in mind for that weekend?

Most likely be in west cork that weekend, near Bantry - so it would be ideal - am due to do a 12 mile that weekend and I don't really see the point in doing it unless I am full out (too expensive for a training run!).
