Route Advice: Avoiding Grand Canal Green Way

Just looking for some route advice. I normally take the grand Canal Green Way, but with the fine weather, and the schools being off, I don't fancy that route. So I am thinking N4 or Ballyfermot Main Street. I am going to Lucan. Anyone cycle these routes, and if so, which is the least hassle from cars/pedestrians??? I am suffering with empty legs today, so speed is an issue. Just went off sugars.

N4 is probably quickest. Strawberry Beds is probably the most scenic.

You travelling City Centre to Lucan? I would prefer the Strawberry Beds over the N4. Certainly less cars. As Vlad says, certainly more scenic!

Edit - City centre to Lucan....doh!

N4 through ballyfermot is okay. Only trouble is the font hill roundabout which can be busy at times.

I wouldn't go near the M50 flyover, its a dodge stretch of road for a bike.

Strawberry beds is nice but longer. Can still be busy in the morning.

If you usually join the Grand Canal way at Inchicore/ Davitt Road an alternative to avoid the canal path could be:

Continue left as Davitt Rd become Naas Rd, when you meet the junction with Long Mile Rd, veer right for the New Nangor Rd, follow that road straight through all the roundabouts, eventually you'll feel like you're cycling in the countryside and the road ends in a t junction.

Turn Right (onto the R120) cycle a bit, and hello Lucan.

Probably a bit longer but it's a lovely evening.

Thanks. I will be coming from Ranelagh. I will play it by ear, and see which one I take. (Won't be Sberry beds as I will be going back on myself to much to get there).

I use the Nangor road in the summer if it's warm as the canal can get busy. Canal was fine today, only group of kids I saw was on the opposite side of canal - loads of them, weren't bothering anyone.
