Do you own shares? Do you have any income other than PAYE?

sometimes they are just sent out randomly as an audit --- i got one 2 or 3 years ago

it's your responsibility to fill out - your employer might help you but they dont have to

Thanks guys, i give the odd grind or two but nothing major. Could it be because of this, someone tipping them off or would this be completely random?

could be either - i'd be inclined to assume its random

Ok, so basically i need to put in every single payment i've taken for each grind i've given?

You are supposed to declare all your income.

    and your allowable expense

I think i'll need to get an accountant to help me with all of this as i don't know what are expenses and what aren't etc.

If it turns out that i don't owe anything do i still need to complete this form. I presume so?

yes - afraid so - and include your employment income

basic rule for expenses is if they are wholly and exclusively related to the business then the are allowable

and the form 12 is for 2013 I assume? Do you need to do returns for 2012 or prior years?

Thanks, well i never received one of these forms before so do i need to include previous years too, i presume so.

Will i be fined for not doing this for previous years or how serious do they take this? I am sure a lot of people struggle with this as anything tax related i presume my employer informs me of, however i now understand that this is for any income even outside of my job.

seperate form for each year -- download a form 12 from revenues website if you need more.

cannot comment on penalties & charges sorry.

I remember a few years back there was a small audit program by Revenue on giving grinds, They were focusing in on noticeboards in shops and supermarkets.

I always thought this was one of the strangest audit programs they ever took on as surely the tax leakage was small in the grand scheme of things

    Sorry....off topic a bit there!

Thanks for the input... not off topic at all.

I would love to know if this was just random or has someone 'tipped them off'.

I've done a lot of freebie grinds too for relations, which involved me driving to them etc so i am sure when i get an accountant to go through it all it might turn out that i made a loss overall... this side of it does not bother me... i'd just like to know why i received the form.

It could be a mistake, ring your local tax office and ask to speak to the income tax section.

Or it could be that they are circularising a % of people in high risk employments hoping to catch something.

Mistake sending it out or not ; the op still needs to submit one fo each year he has grind income

tHOUSANDS of people fill in Form 11 and Form 12 each year.

Your employer is not involved with completing them.

A form is for a particular year.

    YES.

No need for accountant, unless you have complex income and/or expenses.

I have completed Form 12 with grind income, easy enough.
