So my new lens arrived today and I couldn't way to get out and test it a little, even if it was just my back yard. I'm pretty impressed so far :) It's going to take some practice to get used to it though.

It's a great lens, you will get great bokeh effects :D

    Did you get the 1.8 , or 1.4 ?

Yea it's cool, and very light too.

I opted for the 1.8 for now as it's a lot cheaper and I can always upgard if I like it that much (and use it a lot), which I think I will.

To be honest, the 1.8 for the price is far better value, the 1.4 is almost 3x as expensive but no way 3 times as good quality - at least the Canon models

everyone loves the nifty fifty, I still prefer it over my daily lens (which is 5 times the price).

The 1.8 is fantastic value but you cannot compare it to the 1.4 the way you have.... 1.4 let's in more light and is built far far better.
    The bokeh is also smoother.

Had a Canon 50mm 1.8 and now have the Sigma 50mm 1.4 - there is quite a difference.

ofc there is....how can you compare 2 totally different priced lens?
And you were lucky with ur copy of your sigma, most sigmas need to be calibrated.

You may not have noticed, I was backing up your point. Calm down.

Nope, you can't. But you can replace it with the 1.4 if you like.

Had (still have) a 1.7, and I still went for a 1.4 when funds permitted.

You can never have too many 50mm lenses. Each has its own 'personality' or at least attributes that you will warm to for differing reasons.

It may be my screen (uncalibrated) but your test shots look a tad underexposed. What were you shooting ? Av/Tv/Manual? If some of the programmed modes, then maybe try it on manual or with Ev compensation enabled (on the programmed modes) to see the result..... Or, it might be just my uncalibrated screen.

I can't upgarde? I don't quite understand that. Purchasing a better quality lens is an upgrade.

I wasn't posting the pictures for C&C but thanks for your input. The pictures have turned out exactly how I have intended.
